Pottery Barn Inspired Halloween Sign

Isn't this advent calendar from Pottery Barn Kids adorable?
I thought so!
So I made one, sort of.
Materials:
1/3 yard black felt $2.25
2/3 yard orange felt $1.99
2/3 yard antique white felt $1 (bought too much)
The black was 35% wool and I think the white was made with recycled materials. All of it was on sale at Joann's so I was just going for the colors I needed. The white was extra wide too at 72".
-FabriTac glue (already had)
-Ribbon (already had)

How to make it:
1) Cut an orange rectangle 28" wide by 38 high" (Pottery Barn's is 33" wide x 43" high). Then cut a black rectangle (28" wide by about 5" high). Randomly cut one side to look like a bumpy ground and glue it along the bottom with FabriTac glue (love this stuff--no burning your fingers with hot glue!)

Here's a closer look:
Draw a tree on the black felt, cut it out and glue it on*.
*Make sure to not glue on the top left until you add the moon.
Trace a big bowl on the antique white to make a moon and glue it on:
For the scallop edge take a long piece of white felt (a little longer than 38", by about 7") and, using a cup, trace half circles along the edge:
Then fold it in half and pin it in place to cut out both sides at once so that they are identical:
Then open it up:
Then cut it directly down the middle to make two:
Glue them to the backside long edges of the orange sign. Do the same for the top and bottom. Add ribbon to cover up the seams:
For the lettering print "Happy Halloween" in CKFrankfurt font in size 250. Just pin it on the black felt and cut it out (a little tedious). A block font would be easier. Then glue it on:

I glued polka dot ribbon as a hanger. Pottery Barn used twine. It needs a dowel or something to keep the ends from folding in. [For now I just taped it.]
It turned out pretty cute, don't you think? I am planning on turning it into an advent, but for now it's a cute Halloween sign. I have enough white and orange, I may need a little more black felt. It took me about an hour up to this point.

I just saw the "giving tree" in the pottery barn catalog, similar to the Halloween one. That is one of my projects this month. So fun!!

I saw that one too! What a great idea huh? Let's make one together at craft night. Are you coming tomorrow? We can talk about it then. We can trade off hosting if you want.
